Tell them you’reinstalling Champion COPPER spark plugs in your Alfa Romeo GTV6 instead of Golden Lodge 2HL plugs.

They’re $2.50 per plug instead of $25 per, plus shipping and import duties from Italy.

“But but but... the engine was designed AROUND the Golden Lodge. You’re going to burn holes in your pistons!!!” was an actual response.

Next time tell them you’re going to install Champion glow plugs. To warm up the engine faster.

Originality is king, except where the original parts were crap. Which, in Italian cars, can be a lot of parts.

Car guys can be the biggest hypocrites. They will give you hell for not going all-original dealer-serviced cream puff, but many of their own cars are full of hacks.

That’s funny because everyone in the alfa spider community hates the golden lodges and loves NGKs

How to piss off Italians: Imply that Ferrari is not the greatest car company on the face of the earth.

Seriously, look at any youtube or facebook post with some manner of non-equine supercar. You’re almost guaranteed to find some comment along the lines of “shit car. could never beat greatest car FERRARI”

Gotta love trolling the purists.... I once joked on a BMW airhead chatboard that I was going to convert my airhead to run on E85... They all went ape-shit!

My mind was so into cars that I spent a few seconds thinking about which BMW car was ever air cooled.

I think they gave up on me when I installed JC Whitney door seals instead of having a new set made in Milan. $65 or $1,200 for 10 feet of rubber. Hmmm. That’s a hard one.

Can one even tell the difference? I’ll bet the cheaper ones are better made, too.

Dammit dude you’ve already got me researching how to convert my Trail 70 to E85, don’t make me do my GTI too.

Well, she runs. I need to swap a valve cover as the oil vapor canister inlet in mine was cracked, creating a leak. Messy. I also still have an undiagnosed hesitation under throttle. I suspect it might be the plugs, but with these cars it could also be the AFM. I’m looking into swapping mine for one from an L-Jet equipped BMW. Same layout so installation is a breeze, but larger capacity and a better spring mechanism for finer control of the flap. I also had a broken exhaust manifold, which I replaced, but I also seem to now have an exhaust leak that I can’t pinpoint. Every time I reseat the manifold it seems to move.

Very curious...i hate sealing exhausts. It never seems to work for me...

The BMW AFM sounds like a good idea. If it doesn't fix it then it's not money wasted as it's an upgrade anyway.

New gaskets and Permatex red, still leaks. WHat’s odd is I can hear the telltale gurgle in the garage, but when I break out my vacuum hose/funnel “stethoscope” I can’t find it anywhere. MAYBE I shook something loose further down the pipe while I was shaking the manifold free of the downpipe? Some of the guys were saying you almost have to drop the entire exhaust, then have two people simultaneously reinstall.

And the cheaper, hotter plugs - properly gapped - seem to have made a big improvement. MUCH more throttle response.

Glad the plugs have worked :) have that stuck up Alfisti (provided you don’t actually burn a hole in your piston....)

How weird that it’s not discernible. Usually it’s pretty obvious where a leak is coming from. Could you wedge the throttle open at ~3500rpm to give it a bit more noise to pin it down? Maybe outside so you can simultaneously eliminate any reflections from the garage walls and piss off your neighbours at the same time ;)
